Miracle at Manchester is the movie based on the true story of Bryce Newman’s journey fighting brain cancer and a prayer that his San Diego high school “Cathedral Catholic High School” organized for Bryce. Bryce credits this prayer for helping to save his life.
Bryce Newman playing an extra in
at least 5 different scenes.
There are a few actors to note in the movie such as; Dean Cain of “Superman” the series; Daniel Roebuck of “Matlock,” “US Marshalls,” and “The Fugitive fame;” etc…, and Eddie McClintock of “Warehouse 13” fame (this movie is also Eddie’s directorial debut); along with newcomer and heart-throb Nick Avila, who coincidentally, grew up with Bryce in San Diego. Nick’s younger brother Michael was inseparable from Bryce growing up. There are a host of other great actors such as Kory Gettmann who played “Bryce,” Brennan Hunt, Kathy Patterson, and Mike & Cori Lombardi, just to name a few.
Plus, Breanna Laureti and Lauren Owens, at the time of the movie filming, were seniors at Cathedral Catholic High School and acting in this movie. Lauren was so moved by the mission of the Foundation that she wanted to get involved and she now sits on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. If you look closely while watching the movie, you can pick out cameos of the real Bryce Newman playing an extra in at least 5 different scenes. One hint is that he is in the prayer scene sitting next to his close friend Garrett Lombardi.

The surprise prayer held for Bryce included the entire student body (roughly 1,600 students), staff, and community members (roughly 100 individuals). They were all seated in the football stadium (also known as Manchester Stadium). The students dressed in their red school t-shirts and Bryce was asked to wear his white “Team Brycen” t-shirt. Bryce sat in the middle of the crowd of students, which led to an immensely powerful picture.

Father Martin Latiff and all 1,700 individuals raised their hands over Bryce and prayed. A few weeks after the prayer, a scheduled MRI showed the “enhancement” which had been growing, was shrinking in size. Soon after, Bryce was diagnosed cancer free.
